In Fine Form- Supermarine S6B
£40.00Price
In 1931 Great Britan definitively won the Schneider Trophy with its Supermarine S6B. Development of this aircraft for the Schneider Trophy was instrumental to the creation of the Spitfire - as the S6B was powered by the R6 engine (a precursor to the Merlin engine). It’s a picture about competition, and fittingly has a number 1 painted on the side - the title "In Fine Form" evokes the world of thoroughbred racing. The piece also tries to capture the moment that the aircraft breaks free, leaving everything behind. The original picture is now all but lost but was exhibited at Detroit!
