Seafire Bill- Seafire
The Naval Station of Portland Bill provides the backdrop for this study of a particular collection of Seafires. The Warbird community should remember the efforts of Peter Arnold in saving these airframes from a Lancashire scrap heap. The first Aircraft SX336 is now restored again after some years and its sister aircraft are in various states of rebuild. The Mk 24 is of particular interest as it was the last version of the Spitfire - contrasted here with a different paint scheme. Both Peter Armold and Westlands test pilot Tommy Thompson have a copy of this picture. The original was sold to the owner of the Mk 24. He may well bring it back to life. Note John Beattie shown in the cockpit of SX336 who displays this aircraft regularly.
